Hi, I’m Brittany Kurtzhals

I am a Wisconsin based licensed Certified Professional Midwife serving families within an hour of Hubertus that are interested in home birth. My journey to midwifery was not a straight forward path, but my love for birth and babies began at a young age, watching and learning about birth in nature at my grandparents horse farm.

I strive to provide family centered, individualized, evidence based care all in the comfort of your home. In addition to perinatal care, I offer preconception counseling, family planning, miscarriage and loss support.

My husband, Josh and I, are raising five amazing children, four of which have been born under the care of midwives. When I am not at a birth, you can find me in the barn, spending time with my horse Savvy or with my family; hiking, swimming, gardening or cuddled up watching movies or around a bonfire.

Prior to pursuing birth work, I was a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) working at a busy 4 doctor practice. When I became pregnant with my second son, I found a birth center and hired a midwife for that pregnancy and birth. The care I received really ignited my passion in birth work. Becoming a midwife was not in the cards for me at that time, so I trained as a doula to get my start in birth work, attending almost 50 births over 4 years as a DONA doula while also growing my own family.

The shutdowns and turn to virtual learning made midwifery school finally accessible, as the program I was interested in switched to mostly online. One middle of the night nursing session 2 months postpartum had me scrolling and I decided it was finally time, I applied to the direct entry midwifery program at Southwest Technical College and was accepted to start January 2021.

I finished my didactic education in the fall of 2022 while also completing a busy preceptorship at the same freestanding birth center where I had my second child and fell in love with midwifery. It was a full circle moment. In December 2023, I finished up my numbers to sit for my NARM exam. I had the privilege of joining the Gènnisi Birth Services Collective of Midwives in the Spring of 2024 and I am excited as to what this means for my clients and my practice.

My Approach

I believe that women have everything they need to create, grow, birth and sustain their baby. I believe birth is inherently safe, most of the time needing little to no intervention, while also having a healthy respect for birth and knowing when extra support may be necessary.

My goal is to provide individualized, holistic, evidence based and intuitive care so that you feel empowered on your pregnancy journey.
